As the swinging 60s came to an end, America was a country at war.
There were three early morning bomb blasts on the west coast, two at military facilities, and one at a courthouse.
Overseas, the conflict in Vietnam was dragging on, and the death toll was climbing closer to a million.
But one group was determined to bring the horrors of war to the home front, and nothing was off limits to them.
Led by disillusioned young people, the Weather Underground waged war on the establishment, and the establishment met them head on.
Sisters and brothers, the head of the Police Sergeant's Association called emotionally for all-out war between the pigs and us.
We accepted.
Like so many, the Weather Underground were desperate for change, and eventually, nothing but full-scale revolution would do.
We're not just attacking targets.
We're bringing a pitiful, helpless giant to its knees.
But that desperation had deadly consequences.
From Airship, the studio behind American Scandal, business movies and History Daily, comes the latest season of American Criminal, The Weather Underground.
As the nation slowly woke up to the realities of the Vietnam War, a pocket of committed students assembled to make their voices heard.
But when the group splintered, the protest turned violent, and stopping the war became just a footnote in their larger goal of a complete government overthrow.
